What Is a Crash Mat?
A crash mat is a padded safety mat designed to protect you during pole training — especially when learning new tricks, inverts, or aerial transitions. It’s placed around the base of your pole to cushion falls and reduce the risk of injury.
Why Use a Crash Mat?
Safety is part of building confidence. While not every dancer uses a crash mat, it can be incredibly helpful — especially in the beginning stages:
- Helps reduce fear when trying upside-down moves
- Encourages safe exploration of new tricks
- Softens landings from slips or accidental falls
- Provides peace of mind when training alone at home
Types of Crash Mats
Crash mats come in different shapes, sizes, and thicknesses. Your choice depends on what you’re working on:
- Standard Round Mats: Wrap around the pole, usually foldable and easy to store
- Thick Crash Mats (10–12 cm): Best for high inverts or advanced drops
- Thin Mats (4–8 cm): Lighter and more portable — enough for basic safety
- Custom-Fit Mats: Designed for specific pole brands or floor setups
When to Use One
Not every session requires a crash mat — but in certain situations, it’s worth having:
- Trying new tricks for the first time
- Training when tired or less focused
- Practicing drops, flips, or inverted moves
- Filming content where you’re pushing limits
What We Believe at POLEPLACE
You don’t need a crash mat to start pole dancing — but you do need to feel safe. Some people love the extra support; others find it gets in the way. We believe in giving you the choice. Whether you train with or without one, safety and self-trust are always more important than perfection. Use what helps you grow — and leave what doesn’t.
